The best Lovable alternative if you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT

Looking for a Lovable alternative that uses the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for? Compare the options, the trade-offs and when Lovable is still the right call.

If you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT, the best Lovable alternative is one that uses that plan instead of selling you a second AI allowance. Jig is built for exactly that: a free desktop app with a Lovable-style chat and live preview that drives Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, signed in with the subscription you have. This post covers what Lovable does well, why people switch, the realistic alternatives and when staying put is the right call.

What Lovable gets right

Lovable earned its popularity. Credit where it is due:

  • Zero setup. Open a browser, describe an app, see it running. Nothing to install.
  • A backend included. Lovable Cloud provides a database, storage, user sign-in and server functions, built on Supabase’s open source foundation. You can connect your own Supabase project instead.
  • Standard code with GitHub sync. Apps use React, Vite, TypeScript, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, and two-way GitHub sync is available on all plans.
  • Hosting and sharing. One click publishes the app, with custom domains on paid plans.
  • Team-friendly pricing. Workspaces can have unlimited members; you pay for credits, not seats.

Why people look for an alternative

The reasons we hear most often are not about quality. They are about money and ownership.

You pay for AI twice

Lovable meters building in credits. As of November 2026, the Free plan gives 5 credits a day up to 30 a month, Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits and Business at $50, with larger credit tiers and top-ups on paid plans. We found no option to use your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription, or your own model API key, for building. If you already pay Anthropic or OpenAI, that is a second AI bill. More on this in Stop paying twice for AI.

Credits run out mid-project

Building is iterative. A day of fixing a tricky feature can use a month’s allowance, and then you wait or buy more. With your own plan, you are limited by that plan’s allowance instead, which for many Claude Max or ChatGPT Pro users is far larger than they use.

The project lives on someone else’s platform

GitHub sync means you can get the code out, and that is genuinely good. But the workspace, history and, with Lovable Cloud, the database live on Lovable’s servers. For a company, that is a new vendor holding code and data, which is where IT tends to say no.

The best Lovable alternative for Claude and ChatGPT users

Jig feels familiar if you have used Lovable: chat on the left, live preview on the right, projects as cards. The difference is underneath.

  • Your AI. Jig drives Claude Code (Claude Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or an API key) or OpenAI Codex (ChatGPT plans or an API key). opencode covers other models, including Gemini with an API key, OpenRouter, Groq and local models through Ollama. Claude Code has the deepest integration today.
  • Free. The builder costs nothing and never bills for AI. Your provider bills usage directly.
  • Your folders. Each project is a plain folder and git repository on your computer, with a checkpoint commit for every change. Push to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps or any git server.
  • Guided building. A short interview and theme picker before the first build, written plans you approve, error banners with a fix button, and undo to any point.
  • Built for work. For companies there is a machine-wide policy file, a local audit log, keys in the OS keychain and Claude through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI or Microsoft Foundry. See Jig for IT.

Other options, fairly compared

Use Claude Code or Codex directly

If you are comfortable in a terminal or code editor, you can use Claude Code or Codex on their own with your plan. You will set up the framework, dev server and git yourself. Jig exists for everyone who would rather not.

Other hosted builders

  • Bolt.new bills in tokens, with a free allowance and real-time collaboration. See Jig vs Bolt.new.
  • v0 by Vercel lets ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers count eligible responses against their ChatGPT plan, though a v0 credit balance is still needed for platform fees and some features. See Jig vs v0.
  • Replit is a full cloud workspace for any language with its own Agent and usage-based billing. See Jig vs Replit.
  • Base44 is an all-in-one builder with a built-in backend, billed in message credits. See Jig vs Base44.

All of them keep the convenience of the browser, and all of them run their own billing alongside whatever AI plan you already have.

Moving a Lovable project to Jig

Because Lovable syncs to GitHub, moving the code is straightforward:

  1. Connect your Lovable project to GitHub, if it is not already.
  2. Clone the repository to your computer with git or GitHub Desktop.
  3. Install Jig and import the folder. Jig adopts it as a project and has your AI read the code once to write a summary.
  4. Open the preview and carry on in the chat.

If your app uses Lovable Cloud for its database or sign-in, plan that part separately: the code comes with git, but the data and backend configuration live in Lovable Cloud. Apps already connected to your own Supabase project keep working, since that project is yours.

When to stay with Lovable

Stay with Lovable, or pick it, if:

  • You do not already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or an API key, and want one bill for everything.
  • You want hosting and a database handled for you, without accounts to connect.
  • You build from a browser on computers where you cannot install software.
  • Your team relies on working in the same hosted workspace.

Otherwise, try Jig with the plan you already have. It is free on macOS, Windows and Linux; see Jig for individuals and pricing for what is included.

Questions people ask

Is there a free Lovable alternative?

Jig is free to download and use, and never charges for AI. You need an AI coding assistant you already have, such as Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, or an API key, and your provider bills that usage.

Can I use my Claude subscription with Lovable?

We found no option in Lovable’s documentation, as of November 2026, to use a Claude or ChatGPT subscription or your own model API key for building. Building uses Lovable credits.

Does Jig look like Lovable?

The layout is familiar: chat on the left, live preview on the right, projects as cards. The difference is that it runs on your computer and uses your own AI.

Can I import my Lovable project into Jig?

Yes, through GitHub. Sync the project to GitHub, clone it and import the folder into Jig. A Lovable Cloud backend needs to be moved separately.

Does Jig host my app like Lovable does?

No. Jig publishes to hosting you own: your Netlify account, a zip for any static host, or a Dockerfile. More targets, including Vercel and Cloudflare Pages, are coming.

Build your next app with the AI you already pay for.

Jig is free for macOS, Windows and Linux. Describe the app, approve the plan, watch it appear in the preview.

See how it works

  • A desktop computer. macOS, Windows or Linux. Jig is not a phone or browser app.
  • An AI coding assistant or an API key. Claude Code with a Claude plan, OpenAI Codex with a ChatGPT plan, or opencode with a Gemini, OpenRouter or Groq key, or local models through Ollama.
  • Nothing else to pay Jig for AI. Your AI provider bills your usage directly, the way it already does.
